Create a Side Business with Airbnb

Airbnb is an awesome place to find random places. Yurts on a vineyard, cabins, or full apartments, Airbnb has a place for you to stay with a unique experience from a hotel. Airbnb is perfect for finding something unique and for the sense of home.

getting started with airbnb

First of all, have you personally used Airbnb as a guest? We would recommend Airbnb for any type of trip where you’re staying for more than one night. (If you have never stayed in an Airbnb, you can get up to $400 off your first stay with this link).

Checking in to an Airbnb is a bit different than at a hotel. Sometimes it could take a bit more time (than staying at a hotel) because you’re essentially staying at someone’s place and you may need to get keys or meet someone. Sometimes (and becoming more popular) Airbnbs are using keyless entry systems or including a lockbox and code at the location.

With Airbnb there is also sometimes an added fee attached such as a cleaning fee and the charge associated with using Airbnb. Be sure to keep this in mind when looking at your budget. A one-time cleaning fee to us though, is so worth it if you’re doing an extended stay.

Airbnbs are everywhere.

What’s cool about Airbnb is that you can find them almost everywhere! If you’ve been up to date with our videos or blog, you’ll know that we spend quite a bit of time traveling. Sometimes we head out to some pretty exotic places and are still able to find incredible Airbnbs. Did you see the treehouse we stayed in?! Incredible.

We’re not saying that you have to jet set, though, to be able to find great Airbnb option. There are Airbnbs in your own backyard or just a drive away for a getaway weekend. No need to go all the way to Kuala Lumpur to get an exciting “home away from home” experience. I mean, we traveled around the world and never stayed in a yurt, but with Airbnb, we were able to find a yurt on a quaint vineyard with tasting room access on the Oregon coast (video below)! It was a perfect adventure for us and an excuse to spend some time out of our RV for a few days.

Now Let’s Get Into Business

Working with airbnb

Airbnb has been growing like crazy which means there are tons of options for you to generate income if you own almost any type of space. Like we said, we’ve seen yurts, RVs, sailboats, and even full on camping, or “glamping” options for various listings. This means that if you own ANY type of property, this could be a great side business for you. Having trouble thinking about what you’ve got to rent out? How about a flat piece of asphalt? In Albuquerque, New Mexico, we used Airbnb to find a driveway to park our RV on that we had driven across the United States in. By doing this, we then even had access to the owner’s kitchen. It was nothing elaborate, but was still additional income for the homeowner.
