ARIZONA RV ROADTRIP - Grand Canyon, Horseshoe Bend, Lake Powell

Arizona RV Roadtrip- Grand Canyon, Horseshoe Bend, and Lake Powell. ...But let’s skip Antelope Canyon, because that place is bananas! After last week's RV breakdown and mechanic problems, we were left questioning every decision we had made that lead us to living full time in a RV. Luckily, the remainder of our time in Arizona was spent doing an incredible bucket list worthy road trip!Like every other RV or tourist passing through AZ, we hit up Grand Canyon, Horseshoe Bend and Glen Canyon Area. You always hear the best tips when you're out on the road from other travelers. Luckily, fellow travelers shared that Antelope Canyon was a crazy crowded trap! We reflect in today's episode of Tripped, answering the question: "why do we want to travel?" The answer leads us away from a popular sight and off to... the beach in the desert?

Visiting the Grand Canyon in an RV

Grand Canyon turned out to be a surprisingly easy visit. Since we visited during the summer (and on a weekend) we thought that we’d be absolutely mobbed by other tourists snapping away pictures. Luckily, we made the decision to get there at first light, which helped with thinning out the crowds quite a bit.Since we didn’t have any place to stash Pepper safely and it was too hot to leave her in the RV, we had to skip the opportunity to do any hiking. In retrospect, taking a slow drive around the canyon and making plenty of stops at pullouts to sit on top of the RV and take in the view was experience enough.

Visiting Horseshoe Bend at Sunrise

Somehow, we ended up spending almost as much time at Horseshoe Bend. I’ll be the first person to tell you that this is probably my least favorite destination in our entire 2018 RV roadtrip.People are tripping over themselves trying to get a good picture and the view is really not as great as any of the pictures you see heavily filtered online with Instagram princesses posing in front. Nonetheless, Fin puts on an intensive clinic on how to not take a good timelapse video.

Is Antelope Canyon "worth it"?

Finally, we made a decision which would start to affect the entire rest of our trip. Do what we think we "should do"? Or do what we "want to do". What we want to do is sit at Lake Powell beach with some cold drinks.Glen Canyon area was incredible and we had two great days spent camping 100ft away from the lake.PS- No, I should not have flown a drone at Lake Powell. I didn’t know at the time I was in a no-drone zone. My apologies to the water and the rocks that I offended.
